Nanded : Dismissing any official Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate, opposition leader of the Maharashtra legislative council Ambadas Danve said Sangita Patil has been finalized for contesting the Nanded North assembly seat for which the Congress party has already announced the candidature of Abdul Sattar.
The seat is currently held by Shiv Sena MLA Balaji Kalyankar. Though initially he had come on record saying he was in the Uddhav Thackeray camp, in the end, Eknath Shinde found him on his side. To get even with Kalyankar who is now looking for a second term, Shiv Sena (UBT) workers pushed for contesting this seat. But going by MVA's seat sharing formula, Congress has got the Nanded North assembly seat and the party has given Nanded's erstwhile mayor Abdul Sattar against Kalyankar. According to sources, this is because since the constituency always gave a significant chunk of votes to Shiv Sena in the previous elections, Sena (UBT) wanted to retain this seat for itself and cause Kalyankar's defeat.
This is the first time the Sena (UBT) has officially confirmed fielding Sangita Patil as its official candidate. Danve said, "Sangita Patil is our party's official candidate. We appeal to people to cast their votes in favor of a loyalist and ensure a traitor gets defeated."
He refused to comment on MVA fielding the former mayor as the official candidate. But with Sangita Patil's entry, it has become a triangular fight in the constituency where there are 33 candidates in the fray.
Congress local unit is upset with Sena (UBT) fielding candidate against Abdul Sattar. DP Savant of Congress represented the constituency in 2009 and 2014, before Kalyankar defeated him in 2019.
